Suspect charged with attempted murder
Eighteen year old Jermaine Gomez, a resident of Pinks Alley and no stranger to the police, is the person identified as the young man who pointed a handgun and tried to shoot twenty-six year old Anthony Johnson. Luckily for the victim, the weapon did not go off. Johnson told police that around eight on Saturday morning he was standing in front of Ricky’s Store on Central American Boulevard when he heard someone call out his name. According to Johnson, when he turned to look he was staring at the business end of a black handgun. Johnson says he was able to identify Gomez whom he described as a tall dark man about six feet in height, wearing a red shirt and sporting a scar on his throat. Johnson says that Gomez pointed the gun at his face and pulled the trigger … but the weapon just snapped.
That’s when Johnson tried to get away but as soon as he started running he heard three shots and realized that he was hit. Johnson received wounds to the left shoulder and lower left leg. What is not known is why Gomez wanted Johnson dead as police say they are still trying to determine a motive. Gomez was arrested and charged with attempted murder, dangerous harm, use of deadly means of harm and conspiracy to commit murder. Because the charges are indictable Gomez was not offered bail and has been remanded to Hattieville Prison.
