Woman who flips the finger is fined $100

It’s often said that the wheels of justice turn slowly in Belize but tonight one woman found out just how swiftly a sentence can be handed down. According to reports, Lorraine Gladden was this morning charged with the seldom heard of offence of disturbing the court. Apparently Gladden was at Belize City’s Magistrate Court to support a friend but was speaking very loudly outside the courtroom. Police Constable Anibal Castellanos asked Gladden to quiet down, but her only response was to give the officer the middle finger. She was arrested on the spot and promptly escorted to the nearby bench of Magistrate Robert Ordonez. Gladden pleaded guilty and was fined one hundred dollars or in default, a month in jail.
