Renovation of B.T.L. Park continues on schedule despite incessant rains
But in the Newtown Barracks Area, the renovation of B.T.L. Park continues on schedule despite the incessant rains over the past two weeks. While work on the recreational space is expected to be completed by the first week of December, the grand reopening has been postponed from the seventh to just a few days before Christmas. According to Mayor Bradley, the council is heeding the advice of engineers and contractors by holding off on the opening until the land has dried up sufficiently.
Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor
“We have decided to move the opening to the 20th of December. We have advised that the park is on schedule but the rains have really delayed the conditions and we want the park to be perfect. When we are putting the soil and plants and different things like that, we want to allow good opportunity at least one full week of dry weather to allow it to set properly. We are having a major concert; we are bringing in an international artist, Demarco. We are having fireworks, we are working with he vendors, we want everything, we are expecting a lot of people, we are working along with the security and the police to make sure that it is a safe event. I was very pleased to say that the Prime Minister announced that the murder rate I Belize has been cut fifty percent. These are the kinds of things that we want to monitor and make sure it continues. So when we are dealing with B.T.L. park all advise is that it was appropriate to delay the project because of the rains. But everything is on schedule for the twentieth and we are making and we are making the appropriate adjustment in respect to the launch. W e expect a massive launch and we expect that to roll into the new Year with a lot of excitement and a lot of fanfare.”
The newly spruced up B.T.L. Park will be re-launched with a concert featuring dancehall performing artist Demarco and other Belizean acts.
