New Site Erei top F.C. Belize

Good evening. I?m James Adderley with this week?s dish of Sports Monday. Week three of the R.F.G. Trophy Tournament play-offs took us to beautiful Dangriga on Sunday where undefeated New Site Erei played host to F.C. Belize. Would the Belize City team be able to pick up a very important win on the road?

Well, they could have gotten the lead in the opening minute when Tyrone Muschamp elude Ryan Simpson and fires this right foot that inches outside the near upright.

Again F.C. Belize goes for the early lead this time, off the set piece but the intervention by New Site?s Woodrow West is effective.

Folks we?re twenty-three minutes in when Marcus Soto, the Brazilian, picks out Jeromy James in heavy traffic and the header is a thing of beauty. More importantly it gives the road team a 1-zip lead.

On this press Tyrone Muschamp does every thing tonight to get off this shot only to squander the chance.

In the meantime folks meet Kafu Roaches as he applies for a pilot license obviously.

Dangriga keeps searching for the equalizer off this rebound from the set piece but Jerome Serano?s offering is turned back.

In the final minute of the first half Lennox ?Criminal? Castillo tries to pick out Lloyd Nunez. Nunez misses the ball, Jeromy Jones then becomes victimized by the dreaded auto goal at the half we do have a 1-1 ballgame.

So we go the second half folks, and talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth. Jeromy Jones certainly wants this chance back that?s for sure. At the other end Darwin Castillo gets a half a chance to convert but fails to nail down the lead for New Site Erei.

On the next press Elroy Kuylen finds Norman ?Tilliman? Nunez but the header finds goalkeeper Rawley well positioned.

Off this Elroy Kuylen corner kick, ?Tilliman? Nunez gets a good shot at goal but its right at Rawley.

At the seventy-second minute, Kuylen centres to Darwin Castillo and the powerful header beats Rawley as New Site takes a 2-1 lead.

We?re late in the ballgame when Kuylen goes down to the turf. After consulting with the court official Gerald Henry, Referee David Jones chases Clifford Usher off the pitch. It does create a delay because of the mounted protestations by F.C. Belize but the action does resume.

The visitors do get a shoot at trying the ballgame on this play, but Woodrow West beats Jones to the punch. New Site Erei goes on to post the 2-1 w in regulation play.

Folks it appears that New Site had a few problems going into this particular ballgame.

?We came in one on one. We didn?t come in as a team; we were disorganized due to little problems happening in the team right now we can?t get our self together. Due to the problems happening in our team right now.?

?Looking at what you have done so far this year, we go to say you won the big season now this trophy tournament. What are your ambitions for this season??

Norman Nunez
?Well certainly, we want to win again. We are trying to defend our championship and we are here. But right now it doesn?t look really good because our team is trying a lot of things right now. We tend to slack up on this game today because we should have come out with a little more sparks. But we came out the big straw. And that was good for us because a victory is what we need today to try to get our team back in the groove.?

?The level of ball you played today was certainly higher than that of F.C. Belize. However, going down the stretch and looking at international football play, you certainly will have do a lot more with New Site Erei to get them to the next level.?

?Well certainly our team is much better than that. You can see in the second half we make much of our starters come off the bench. As you can see some of our starters were on the bench, so, but international level we would be a better team. I can assure people that because this is a very good team. People don?t really look at it, but this is a very good team come international match. This is a good team and I have lot of confidence in this team.?

In the other play-off match on the schedule Placencia Pirates pummelled Hankook Verdes 4-2. Thus after week three in the R.F.G. play-offs New Site leads with a perfect 9 points, F.C. Belize shows 4 points, Placencia 3 and Verdes 1.

Meanwhile the schedule continues this Wednesday night with F.C. Belize hosting Verdes inside the M.C.C. Grounds seven thirty p.m. Wednesday. Also on Wednesday night, New Site Erei will get a visit from the Placencia Pirates.

On Saturday Placencia will host Verdes and New Site comes to the M.C.C. Grounds Sunday for a re-match with F.C. Belize.

In Guiness 8 Ball Tournament news people, on Friday Advance clubbed Copa 6-4 and MJ?s mashed El Paso by that same score. On Saturday the blackout forced a chill in the action, but we can tell you that on Thursday Catt?s Place crushed Copa 10-zip in live action. And Lion King trampled El Paso 8-2. This Thursday night Triangle visits Catt?s Place and Copa goes to Mike?s Club.

On the Volleyball scene, Belize in its role as host of Beach Volleyball failed to pick up a win over the weekend. Guatemala beat Honduras to take the female title, while Costa Rica got over El Salvador to take the male championship.

Finally in Basketball news, Belize loss both matches to Costa Rica in the Central American Basketball Championship. Which eliminates us from the particular tournament to make things worse our import from the United States, Belizean-American Kenton Paulino might have suffered a career threatening injury at Costa Rica. And we are hoping its not so, but of course we will keep you posted, stay tuned.
