Convicted killer sentenced to six years behind bars

A man convicted of killing another person because of a mango seed has been sentenced to six years in jail. In the Supreme Court this morning, Justice Adolph Lucas told eighteen year old Travis Arnold, “Manslaughter is a serious offence. A person can get up to life imprisonment … you are a young man, a juvenile sixteen years old at the time. I will sentence you to six years in jail with effect from today’s date”. Arnold was arrested in May 2004 and initially charged with murder after he stabbed Jason Encalada Wagner in the chest with a knife. The two had started to fight because Wagner threw a mango seed at the defendant. A jury of his peers convicted Arnold of the lesser charge of manslaughter last month.
