Police Precinct One receives two new motorcycles from the business community

There is always a spike in amount of robberies during this time of the year. Throughout the city, particularly in downtown Albert and Regent Streets, thieves behave more brazen prompting the police since the fifteenth of November to put in place a Business Watch Program to deter criminal activity. To assist with this effort, Precinct One which is under the command of Superintendent Alden Dawson, received two new motorcycles from the business community. The bikes, according to Dawson, will add to the fleet that they already have and will allow them to expand their patrols to Central American Boulevard which falls under their jurisdiction and which over the months has become a hotspot.

“The acquisition of these two bikes were made possibly with the assistance of the business community—namely the Chinese business: 88 Shopping Center; Williams Store—and the other cycle was mainly through the Indian community.”

“These bikes came in at no better time than now because this is the time when downtown shopping gets tense and we have a lot of streets presently under repair and it is difficult to move around in the vehicle. The cycle is much easier to move around and we could cover more ground and reach to any one point for response much quicker.  We notice that the boulevard has become a very active area. One time we does only have the downtown of concern around this time, but we notice now that the boulevard area, that stretch there, now has a lot of businesses and attracting a lot of costumers. So we plan to put these two bikes in that area and we are about to add two officers to this unit. Presently we have six bikes. With these two added to the fleet, it will be eight bikes for the Business Watch purpose. This time we have the extra patrol that is already out since the fifteenth of November. These are additional officers that go out in the evening. They are staff officers—they work on staff duty—they work from eight to five and then they come back on at six and then they work until ten after the business hour. This boosts the amount of police in the streets and we will continue it through the Christmas until the fifteenth of January.”
