Weekend Sports Highlights with James Adderley

Good evening, I am James Adderly and this is Sports Monday. The Belikin Cup tournament got to present the rained out week 7 schedule over the weekend with 3 matches nationwide. At the Norman Broaster stadium yesterday San Ignacio United had the home field against a struggling Police United who find themselves at the bottom of the standings which is mindboggling since they came into the team football competition as defending champions. Folk we’re in the opening minutes when Lennox Castillo gets this open look at goal to give Police Untied a perfect start only to miss the goal from point blank range. In fact the Police could have had a 2 goal lead in the earl going if Amin August could have converted this chance and Castillo had delivered his attempt. Folks we’re in the 7th minute when poor communication between goalkeeper Jaime Brooks and his defender Cristobal Gilharry allows Joel Guzman to steal the ball and score into an empty goal to take a 1 – nil lead. Fortune then smiles on the Police when this inadvertent groundball occurs inside the box and the referee rules penalty. Cristobal Gilharry gets the ball and places the ball too close to Ryan Saravia who makes the stop, the rebound reaches Gilharry who misses the target some 6 feet. You simply can’t win ballgames this way people. The Police almost tie the ballgame when Lennox Castillo surprises Saravia with this slice but recovers in time. In the meantime, 10 Kafu Roaches got there equalizer for the Police at their 48th minute but we experienced a mishap and didn’t get the picture. The police could have table a 2 – 1 lead off his press when Danny Jimenez unleashes this right foot that Sarvaia handles but would have to leave the ballgame due to injury. And is replaced by Tevin Gamboa. We’re at the 64th minute when Roy Cano fires this left foot, Jamie Brooks pushed it out at Joel Guzman who gives San Ignacio the 2- 1 lead. Police United had this chance to tie the ballgame at 2 apiece but the collective effort from the San Ignacio Team denies Castillo the opportunity to get out the scoreboard. San Ignacio goes on to post the 2 -1 big W over Police. In other results from the weekend Paradise Freedom Fighters and the Belize Defense Force rallied to a 2- 1 stalemate while Belmopan Bandits beat Verdes in a 2 – 1 affair. This brings us to week 10. On Saturday 14th December the Belmopan Bandits will host Paradise f=Freedom Fighters in a battle for the lead, Verdes FC will take on Police at Benque Viejo while on Sunday San Ignacio Untied Will be inside the Norman Broaster Stadium against FC Belize.
