Minister pushes higher profile for education
It’s Education Week and today, as a part of the activities, the Ministry of Education held an open house at the Belize City House of Culture. According to organisers, the exhibition aims to educate the community on the wide range of services being provided by the ministry. This morning, Minister of Education Francis Fonseca described the new proactive approach he’s taking to highlight government’s efforts.
Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education
?The primary objective is really to showcase the work of the Ministry of Education, for us to engage more meaningfully with the community, those who we serve. So I think really it?s an opportunity for us as a part of education week to highlight the work of the Ministry to allow the various departments of the Ministry of Education to put on, display their work to allow them to respond to the questions and concerns, the citizens of Belize may have about the work we are doing.?
?Of course every child needs a teacher and it?s not only about the teacher in a classroom, it?s about everybody in our society being teachers and trying to help out our young people in our society. Education is really about transforming lives, building communities and trying to make sure people have an opportunity to not only improve their own live but also the lives of their community.?
Other government sponsored activities for Education Week include a secondary schools debate and award ceremonies for outstanding teachers and schools.
