Occupational Safety and Health Bill to be introduced at next House Meeting

The National Trade Union Congress of Belize has been agitating for the introduction of the Occupational Safety and Health Bill for quite some time. On Thursday when the bill did not make it to the house, the N.T.U.C.B. made known its discontent. A few days earlier the N.T.U.C.B. declared that it expectantly awaited the introduction of the bill for first reading. The N.T.U.C.B. was removed from the house by the Speaker.

“It’s a signal that 2014, we mean business; we are not here to play. These are people who are getting hurt out there; it’s a people who are on the line…it’s our social security money that are depleting because of the fact that we are paying out too much which comes down to organization safety health. If we can pass these laws, we can have benefits for everybody. We would see the rippling effects of those benefits translated to every single aspect of our economy.”

Word to News Five is that before departing for Venezuela, the prime minister indicated that the bill will be introduced in the next house meeting scheduled for January thirteenth. The N.T.U.C.B. will convene a meeting this Thursday to discuss the introduction of the bill.
