It is estimated that every month some two hundred and fifty babies are born at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. But for some time, doctors and nurses have had to provide many mothers with care products during their hospital stay. Today, a new partnership between the K.H.M.H. and the local ?Huggies? representative should make the post delivery period less stressful.

?I have been planning this project for some months now along with Mister Gary Ayuso, and we found out that the nurses here along with other people, sometimes have to pool monies together to buy diapers and other things that women who come into this hospital to have babies they don?t bring anything along with them, so we decided to take it upon ourselves and assume this responsibility.?
In association with the manufacturing company Kimberly Clark Corporation and local agent Santiago Castillo Limited, the K.H.M.H. will receive a donation of thirty six cases of ?Huggies? a year including wipes and brochures. The products will then be presented in gift packages to mothers.

?We are obviously very appreciative whenever the business community or the community in general join forces with Karl Heusner. Like it or not Karl Heusner is the public hospital for Belize City and the referral for the entire country, and despite the negative press that we have been receiving lately, we do a lot of good that goes unnoticed and we do have a lot of needs, so whenever the public realizes that and gives us the assistance we are undoubtedly very appreciative.?
Thirty two year old Ishell O?Brien and nineteen year old Carina Ramirez are just two of the mothers that will benefit from the new program. On Tuesday morning O?Brien?s baby boy was delivered by c?section. She has yet to name her son but she is grateful for the gifts.

?I am sure that this initiative would result in mothers even K.H.M.H. with a greater sense of well being, not having to worrying about finding that initial pack of diapers and knowing that someone has thought about their welfare. In addition, we want to assure you that this donation will be properly managed and each and every pack will go to the intended beneficiaries.?

In addition to the Huggies Program at the K.H.M.H., for the past eight years Santiago Castillo Limited has also provided gifts to the first mother on Mother’s Day.
