Latest Belizean Studies Journal released to public

Story PictureFor the past two decades, “Belizean Studies” has served as an important research tool on a wide variety of subjects. The latest edition of the journal includes articles discussing the human impact in the Mopan and Chiquibul rivers, food sharing in a Mennonite community, rain patterns in Belize, Guatemala and Mexico and an overview of trade and export patterns in Belize. Co-editor Yasmin Andrews says all the papers in this issue are interesting and full of useful information.

Yasmin Andrews, Co-editor, Belizean Studies
?Dr. Mike Pisani did a very good job looking at the Belizean export market, export basket over a twenty-five year period. So it?s a lot of work, it looked at how Belize has changed since 1981, what we used to export at that time, what has changed within the market trends, how globalization has impacted us and how we are in this new, what he calls neo-colonial dependence.?

?We have a very wide audience, especially in the U.S., and in the U.K .and even in Canada. And it?s in most of the universities online, in the databases in the libraries in the States. And even, like last year, most of our articles submitted were by these international scholars, but because now we want to encourage our local Belizeans, we want to give them that forum, and we save them the space in the journal.?

Andrews says a call for papers will go out next month for the October issue, which is scheduled to focus on topics in education. Previous editions of the journal, including those dating back to the 1980’s are available for one dollar a copy at the Belizean Studies Resource Centre at St. John’s College campus in Belize City.
