6 year old boy drowns in weekend incident
Foul play has been ruled out following the discovery of the body of a child in a man made pond in August Pine Ridge village on Monday morning. The victim, six year old Artemio Mendez Jr. was found floating face down in the water by a joint police and B.D.F. search party more than eighteen hours after he disappeared. Subsequent investigations have revealed that the boy was swimming with a cousin when he disappeared beneath the surface. Family members noticed his absence later that day and immediately started looking for him. However, it was not until the following day that the other child confessed to family members that he and Artemio had been swimming in the pond. A post-mortem conducted this afternoon has concluded that the little boy died of asphyxia due to drowning.
