?Impossible is Nothing? dominates Mountain Bike Classic
Good evening. I?m James Adderley, this is Sports Monday. The final schedule, namely week ten of the RFG Trophy Tournament brought Belmopan United to the M.C.C. Grounds yesterday to face F.C. Belize.
F.C. Belize needs a win to cement its grip on a post season appearance so they opt for the early goal on this press only to be denied.
Folks we?re twenty-three minutes into the ballgame when Clifford Usher sets table for Rudolph Flowers and the home team takes a 1-zip lead just like that.
Talking about aiding the enemy, Locho Coye of Belmopan passes back to his goalkeeper and it?s a poor one; Richard Flowers seizes the opportunity to make it a 2 nil ballgame twelve minutes later.
Today the goals come in threes because at the twenty-seventh minute, Usher sets up Jones?s pass for himself but its Rudolph Flowers who smacks it home for his third goal of the match.
Belmopan tries to answers off this spotkick by Edmund ?The Buzzer? Pandy but the goalkeeper Rawley reacts in time.
Talk about flirting with danger, Rawley should have handled this pass better, but the ball inches outside the sticks.
And then into injury time in first half, Clifford Usher mounts this individual effort that somehow succeeds in making it a 4-zip score for F.C. Belize at the half.
In the second half the host team tries to increase the lead on this particular press but it?s not to be. Nevertheless, F.C. Belize goes on to preserve the 4-zip victory to finish at top the standings in B.P.F.L.?s Group B.
In other action around the league, Placencia Pirates punched out Wagiya 1-zip. Hankook Verdes doubled Alpha 2-1, and New Site Erei dished out a 5-zip drubbing to Benque Viejo United.
Thus at the end of regular season play ,New Site sits at top Group A with 23 points, Placencia makes the post season with 21, while Wagiya finishes with 15 points, Benque Viejo 14 and Cayo Avengers a mere 2 points.
F.C. Belize concludes with 15 points in Group B but so does Hankook Verdes of Cayo, but F.C. Belize emerges the number one seat in this group on goal aggregate. Kremandala finishes with 11 points, Belmopan 10 an Alpha 8.
The fourteen playoffs thus begin this Sunday May fourteenth, with New Site Erie hosting Hankook Verdes at the Carl Ramos while Plancencia Pirates come to the M.C.C. Grounds to visit F.C. Belize.
Turning to the cycling scene, the Viper Tours and Bizzie Bee Production of Sunday?s monster Mountain Bike Classic which ran from Esperanza in Cayo to the Marion Jones Sporting Complex attracted fifty-three riders at the nine a.m. start.
And as we say in the business, they?re off on a sixty-five mile ride filled with big time prizes.
The first attempt at a run comes from this youngster Alfonso Velasquez who grabs two preemies in a row.
But by the time the race reaches Roaring creek, its Paul Trapp rolling as the lead man.
Just outside Belmopan this eight man team executes the break away that would impact this particular event. Dennis Molina, Abraham Castillo, Tyrel Ferguson, Cebaldo Cowo, Mark Flowers, Kenroy Gladden, Joseph Ingram and Edward Payne are all there.
Around mile thirty-two Cebaldo Cowo steps away from the lead pack and he does.
He is then joined by Tyrel Ferguson. His team mate also riding for team ?Impossible is Nothing.?
However, Ferguson can?t hang with the cruel pace being initiated by Cowo, who now must go it alone.
Heading towards Belize City, it?s Cowo on a solo-flight and he looks pretty comfortable with three of his team mates, Paul Trapp, Ferguson and Kenroy Gladden some two miles behind him.
While Dennis Molina and Abraham Delgado Castillo try to get back into the thick a things.
Inside the Marion Jones Sporting Complex its Cabaldo Cowo entering alone. And Cowo goes on to claim the title unchallenged in 3 hours 32 minutes 30 seconds, and we certainly send our heartfelt congratulations.
His three team mates then enter the park, and here?s the trio rolling pass the finish line as a unit to take two, three and four respectively in a show of sportsmanship.
The sprint for fifth place prove to be a monster, Abraham Castillo holds off Dennis Molina to take fifth place as team ?Impossible is Nothing? sweeps all top five spots. That?s big time news people.
Cebaldo Cowo, Winner
?We got most of the man that were covering for me so I stayed back. We?ll give it every punch that we got, and then I will take over from there. Because I know from that time I felt strong, I felt good and gave it a shot.?
James Adderley
?But what made you make that move around mile thirty-two??
Cebaldo Cowo
?I say, I just feel good and I think I can take it from here. When I rolled on that smooth road, it felt pretty fast and that was it.?
James Adderley
?What was your team strategy going into this??
Andrew Brown, Manager, Owner and Rider
?Well the thing is was to try to get as much men in the break. So we could dominate, once we get in the break we could start the attacks.?
James Adderley
?Are you satisfied with the team work you got today from your twelve of your players?
Andrew Brown
?More than satisfied, more than satisfied. We got one through five.?
James Adderley
?How hard was it for you to hold on to the pace of Cebaldo Cowo, your team mate??
Kenroy Gladden, fourth place winner
?Well rough because I know he was a very hard pacer. He is the hardest pacer on the team, so he decided to work for him and Tyrel and down the stretch he just proved himself stronger and just walk out and come down to town.?
James Adderley
?Dennis Molina was the only Viper rider trying to heng on in there. You quadruple or triple team, there was a whole lot of teaming going on against Mr. Molina.?
Kenroy Gladden
?Well he was talking about the place before the race. He was talking about he would rank out me and my eye with the Spanish and push we out, but he didn?t prove it today.?
James Adderley
?I don?t think you got enough help from your team today.?
Dennis Molina, sixth place winner
?Yeah, I didn?t have enough help to bridge cross, so dah me one so I can?t mek everyone go lef me.?
James Adderley
?But don?t you think it was dangerous of you to be answering all of the attacks, every time somebody move you stepped up to keep up hand in the game.?
Dennis Molina, sixth place winner
?Well I dah champion, so I have to defend my title.?
Checking in on the Guiness 8 Ball Pool Tournament currently in session here in Belize City. Catt?s Place beat Advance 6-4. Shooters got past Triangle by that same score. Mike?s check stopped El Paso 6-4. MJ?s did a number on Lion King 6-4 also. Triangle got post Copa 6-4, and Catt?s Place beat Shooters 6-4.
Finally in Softball news, here is a reminder that the seventy-third semi-annual softball competition kicks off this Sunday, May fourteenth inside the Roger?s Stadium. The home of softball and you won?t want to miss it. This competition has tradition, it has competition and it has excellence.
Stay tuned, but that?s it for now though. We invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah! Overall I am James Adderley.
