Bullets fly in barbershop robbery

A student is tonight recuperating from a gunshot wound, the victim of a shootout between a cop and a robber. According to a police press release, around five Wednesday evening, a single gunman entered Shabba’s Barber Shop on Kraal Road. He placed the gun to the head of Marlene Robateau, ordered the other customers not to move, and then relieved her of her cell phone worth just under a thousand dollars before fleeing the scene. But the robber did not get away that easily as inside the barber shop at the time was an on duty plain clothes police officer. The P.C. set chase after the culprit and according to police reports, when the man opened fire on the cop, the officer returned the shots in kind. The robber managed to escape, but during the exchange one of the bullets found its mark in seventeen year old Jenicia Sanker. Sanker was riding in the area at the time and reported that she felt a burning sensation to her left elbow, but does not know who shot her. Sanker was taken to the K.H.M.H. for treatment and later released. In addition to its investigation the robbery, the police internal affairs department will conduct its own inquiry which is done anytime an officer fires a weapon. Police have declined to offer any more details, including information on whether Sanker was shot by the crook or cop.
