Hattieville man convicted, fined and confined for Burglary

Today in the courtroom of the Chief Magistrate, a Freetown Sibun resident was convicted after his fingerprints were lifted from a perfume bottle he came in contact with during a burglary at the home of well-known Hattieville resident, Douglas Hyde.  The crime occurred last September at Hyde’s house located in the American New Site area of Hattieville. More than seven thousand dollars worth of items and cash as well as legal work for government were stolen.  Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith found Robert Young Junior guilty, but was displeased at an alibi witness who was dishonest to the court. In mitigation plea, Young’s uncle begged for leniency asking the court to impose a fine, claiming that when Young was first sent to jail, he ended up in cells with the two men who have been accused of killing his father, Robert Young Senior. Chief Magistrate Smith ordered Young to pay seven thousand dollars in instalments to Hyde and he was further sentenced to two years imprisonment. During the investigation, Hyde’s house was found to be ransacked and the crime technician was able to lift prints from a perfume box that had been thrown on a bed in one of the rooms. The prints were sent to Belmopan where they were processed and matched Young’s fingerprints.
