One charged, one sought in Cayo rape
The plague of sexual assault cases in Belize continues unabated. On Tuesday, Belmopan police arrested a twenty five-year old man in connection with a claim made by a thirteen-year old girl from a nearby village that she was raped by a pair of assailants. The minor reported to police that around one a.m. on Easter Monday, she and a male friend were making their way to her sister’s house after a dance, when they were approached by two men on bicycles. According to her report, the pair, Darren Young and Johnathan Quiroz, convinced the male friend to leave after which Young grabbed the girl and forced her on the handlebars of his bike. The victim alleges that both Young and Quiroz took her to an abandoned house, where they took turns raping her. Police have since arrested and charged Young with rape but are still looking for Quiroz. If you have any information on his whereabouts, please contact the nearest police station or call Crime Stoppers at 0-800-922-TIPS.
