Belizean surgeon honoured by U.S. magazine

Story PictureAnd while we’re on the topic of successful women, we have been informed that a Belizean has made Essence magazine’s list of the world’s most inspiring Black women. She is thirty-six year old Dr. Lisa Johnson. Johnson is Belize’s first female general surgeon, graduating from the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. According to Ambassador Garcia, Dr. Johnson’s recognition highlights the fact that Belizean women are accomplishing great things.

Ambassador Dolores Balderamos-Garcia
?I would like for all of us Belizeans to feel exceedingly proud of Dr. Johnson. Being a woman surgeon is no mean accomplishment and Lisa not only has accomplished a great deal for herself, but she is also sharing and she also has that commitment to help women to come to forward. And so we?re really delighted that Lisa is in the Essence magazine for May and we?re hoping that all Belizeans can have a look at it and feel proud of what our Belizean women are accomplishing.?

Dr. Johnson currently works at Universal Health Services. She is the only child of Shirley and Ainsworth Johnson.
