Ready Call unionist vents frustrations at Labour Dept.

Story PictureThey are a relatively new company, but Ready Call Centre is fast developing a reputation as being controversial. Sources inside the company tell News Five that after a company meeting on Thursday night, a manager and at least two senior supervisors resigned in protest of a managerial decision to fire a number of agents. Today two union supporters took to the street in front of the office protesting the dismissal. According to Monica Hemmans, who was herself fired in February, this latest batch of dismissals is a continued case of union busting by management. But today, Hemmans vented her frustrations with the Labour Department.

Monica Hemmans, Union Supporter
?When you go through the labour department they do a little bit and then they start dragging their foot after that. Right now my case is still at hand and they were supposed to get in touch with Mr. Peyrefitte to set up a meeting for us to try and resolve the problem and has not done so. And they had told me that Mr. Peyrefitte was the one that were waiting on in order to settle the matter. I spoke to Mr. Peyrefitte today and he told me he is waiting on the labour department.?

?They have their warrants at that labour department. They could go into this place and find out exactly what is happening. We have to be brining up pointers to these people and showing them. Then they are asking us to please just give them more information so that they can go and address the problem. That is their job to do.?

When News Five contacted the Labour Department this evening, a spokesman told us that despite the number of persons who have been in media complaining about conditions at Ready Call Centre, he knows of only one formal complaint being made against the company, which is from Monica Hemmans. He says that they are addressing her problem through her lawyer, Michael Peyreffite. The Labour Officer also contends that the department is working to address several issues at the company. For their part, Ready Call management maintains that the employees were fired because of poor performance scores.
