Prosecution drops charges against accused rapists
The Director of Public Prosecutions has abandoned legal action against a thirty year old man and a sixteen year old girl, charged with sexual offences. According to court reports, when Hattieville residents Mark Neal and the minor appeared in the Supreme Court today, Crown Counsel Marjorie Moyston entered a nolle prosequi motion, thereby allowing the duo to walk out of court unscathed. Neal was accused of carnal knowledge, while the minor faced a charge of abetment to rape. The charges were initiated following a report by the thirteen year old victim. According to the girl, on May first, 2004, she accompanied the older teen to a house in Hattieville under the pretence that they were going to get a videocassette. But once inside, the thirteen year old claims that she was held down by the older girl, while Neal raped her twice. It is believed that the D.P.P. abandoned the prosecution due to lack of cooperation by the alleged victim.
