Will C.E.O. of CPBL, Henry Canton, be terminated?
There have been sustained attempts to remove Dr. Henry Canton as C.E.O. of CPBL. In fact, in 2011, he successfully defended in Court his position after the CGA tried to terminate his contract and sought an injunction to remove him from office after he refused to go. So the relationship is hostile, to put it mildly, and with the new proposed restructuring, attention is once again focused on Canton and his position on top of the CPBL hill. PM Barrow is aware of that, and says he has no doubt the matter will come up in discussions slated for Tuesday in Belmopan. We note that he didn’t seem unduly concerned about Canton’s well-being.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“I am certain that will be one of the issues on the table at the meeting to be held in Belmopan tomorrow. I have not discussed that directly with Mr. King from Bank’s Holdings and I don’t want to prejudice the negotiations for tomorrow. I would say though that from my point of view that we are talking about a fresh start, then certain consequences ought to inevitably flow from that.”
A meeting is being convened in Belmopan on Tuesday inside Cabinet Chambers where Gaspar Vega will take the lead in putting the finishing touches to the framework of the agreement. Prime Minister Barrow left the country this afternoon for the U.S.A., accompanying his wife Kim who is going for a medical check-up.
