Human remains found on farm in Orange Walk
Up north, human remains were found today at a farm in the outskirts of the village of Guinea Grass in the Orange Walk District. A caretaker at a farm discovered the bones today on a trail in the farm. At news time, the identity of the person is not known, but a family has reported two weeks ago that their twenty-two year old son had gone missing. The family believes that the remains are those of Luis Moreno. Duane Moody has that story.

Some four hundred yards inside a farm off the Guinea Grass Road outside of Orange Walk Town the skeletal remains believed to be that of a male person were discovered.

“What the police speculated is that the body may have been there for about three weeks now. It was mainly skeletal remains. At this time, we do not know the cause of death; we do not know the identity of the person. We have contacted the forensic lab, the forensic pathologist where the post mortem will be conducted at the scene sometime tomorrow where we will get some more information as to the cause of death if it can be determined and hopefully an identity of that remains.”
The Orange Walk Police have been looking at missing-persons reports to see if there are any links. On their records is one report made by Marcela Moreno that her twenty-two year old son, Luis “Patch” Moreno, had gone missing. Patch was the eldest of eight siblings and never left home for long periods of time.

“He noh give no problem to nobody and he noh have no pa. dah me raise my son alone. And my son noh give no problem. So if it is him, I want justice because dehn noh should take away nobody life because only god should take away somebody’s life. And the person weh do it to him, god will look after them. But if dah my son, I want justice because dah noh wah dog dehn kill mien.”
On receiving the news of a body found, Marcela hurried to the station. She believes that the body is that of Patch because the sweater found on the scene was that which he left with around eight in the morning on February fifth and was never seen again.

“I went to the station and they take out some pictures and show me and I saw this persons and it looks like it is a male persons, but I don’t know if it is my son, but it was decomposed. But I saw a sweater that he left from my house with, but that pants was not that pants; he didn’t have no slippers around. When I saw the sweater and the curly hair on the side, I have a feeling that maybe it is him. I don’t know until tomorrow I will know the response if it is him or not.”
Whether the body is that of Patch is unknown to police at the time; so is the cause of death says the Deputy Officer Commanding Orange Walk Police.

“We don’t want to jump into speculation at this time, but yes we are working with the relatives. At the end of the day we will know if this is the person or not. We cannot say with certainty that he is or he is not. The possibilities are endless: from a caretaker, to a hunter, to a senile old man that might have got loss; but any possibility is a theory at this point in time. We do not have much information right now to indicate to us that it is a murder or if it is a natural death. So until we get the post mortem result, we will know with more certainty what exactly occurred.”

“He made me a woman for the first time, but I have seven more that is living. But I don’t know if he is dead but we will know tomorrow and I pray to god that it is not like that. But if it is like that, I hope god give me lotta strength to support it.”
