Road Safety Project deals with traffic enforcement and road conditions
As we told you, the Road Safety Project deals with everything from traffic enforcement to road conditions, specifically the road on what is called the western corridor. That’s the Western Highway to us regular commuters, and it is a particularly deadly stretch of road, claiming many lives and maiming many. If you’ve travelled that road in recent months, you will have seen work being done on the shoulders near the Beaver Dam Bridge at Mile forty. According to SIF’s Evan Dakers that work is also part of the Road Safety Project.
Evan Dakers, Social Investment Fund
“We are working with the Road Unit and that is a unit that was recently established in the Ministry of Economic Development and their mandate is to upgrade what they call the Western Corridor—from Belize City to Belmopan. And I am certain that on your way up, you might have seen some work going-on on the shoulders; I think they are through St. Matthew’s Village. So it is not just SIF. We are working hand in hand with the Ministry of Economic Development through this Road Unit that was recently established to upgrade that corridor from Belize City to Belmopan.”
News Five understands that the Project includes the total resurfacing of all those slick and slippery stretches which have become infamous whenever there is any slight rain.
