BWS objects to PUC’s decision on water rates
The Belize Water Services Ltd., following a request to the Public Utilities Commission to increase water rates by sixteen and a quarter percent, objects to the PUC’s initial decision which was made on January thirtieth. The utility company made the request on the basis of ensuring its viability; however, the decision of the commission has been rejected on the grounds that, quote, its review of the initial decision indicates that the regulated asset values are incorrectly calculated due to a misunderstanding of the accounting treatment of developers’ contributions and equity contributions. The PUC is now tasked with appointing an independent expert by March fifth.
