Dangriga shopkeeper shot in head by robbers

Story PictureTonight the Chinese community–not to mention Belizeans nationwide–is once again shaken following the shooting of yet another shopkeeper. Thirty two year old Xue Ming Luo, proprietor of Ming’s mini supermarket in Dangriga, remains in an induced coma at Belize Medical Associates. Xue was shot in the right eye by an armed masked man who entered the store around eight fifty on Saturday night. Although police arrived on the scene in time to see the gunman flee from the area, they were unable to catch him as the suspect got away by running into a nearby mangrove swamp. All police were able to retrieve was a black ski mask they believed was used by the robber. Today News Five spoke with Wellington Chee, a business man and family friend of the shooting victim.

Wellington Chee, Family Friend
?My understanding is someone went in to rob. I?m not sure how many, but there was no question about it, they went to rob him. My understanding they just came in firing without asking any question and he as a matter of fact had his four month old baby in his hand and they shot him in his right eye and the bullet is still lodged in his head.?

?How is Mister Luo doing??

Wellington Chee
?He is very critical, but stable. He had to undergo surgery?as he landed as Belize he underwent surgery at the Medical Associates, that?s under the leadership of Doctor Cervantes and Doctor Lara. And I would have to convey gratitude on behalf of the family to the BATSUB crew that flew him immediately on that night and it was really grateful and they do appreciate Doctor Roberts and his staff for doing that service.?

Jacqueline Woods
?How is the Chinese community dealing with this latest incident?

Wellington Chee
?Well they are still very depressed and they are in sorrow and grieves because of this last one is Corozal it just happened like few weeks and so they are still very shocked about it.?

The Chinese association has offered a ten thousand dollar reward to anyone who can provide the police with information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Information can be given to police through Crime Stoppers at 0-800-922-TIPS.
