Was outspoken senator a victim of arson?
It was at best a freak occurrence but at worst a crime with frightening implications. On Saturday afternoon around one-thirty Senator Godwin Hulse arrived for a meeting at the Belize City law office of Lois Young-Barrow on New Road. He parked his truck, a 1993 Dodge Ram turbo diesel, in the lot at the back of the building. At four-fifteen he heard a commotion and exited the building, only to see his vehicle in flames, with concerned neighbours trying to douse the blaze with a garden hose. Despite those efforts the truck was pretty much a write-off with extensive damage to the engine and dashboard. So how does a vehicle parked for almost three hours suddenly go up in smoke? Hulse, who is the outspoken chairman of the Senate committee investigating Social Security, not to mention an expert auto mechanic, is not making any accusations … but he did tell News Five, ?I find it incredible that my truck engine would just ignite itself.” Nobody in the area saw the vehicle being tampered with. It was not insured against fire.
