Tourist asks to go swimming; gets assaulted
Also in court, a taxi driver from Hattieville who got too friendly with a tourist who employed his services had to answer to a charge of Aggravated Assault of an Indecent Nature. The tourist, a forty-four year old woman, reported that after she got off a cruise ship, she caught a taxi driven by thirty-one year old Errol Ferguson. She went to Old Belize, but it seems she was not impressed and asked to be taken somewhere else to swim. Ferguson then reportedly took her to Belizean Beach. But after they struck up a conversation in the water, Ferguson overstepped his boundaries by kissing the tourist on her neck and made inappropriate sexual advances. The woman says she became annoyed and demanded that Ferguson bring her back to Belize City, where she reported the incident and requested court action. Ferguson pleaded not guilty to the charge in the court of Magistrate Rachel Montejo and was granted bail of two thousand, five hundred dollars and a surety of the same amount. He paid up by one this afternoon and is due back in court on September twenty-fifth.
