Corozal ferryman falls off ferry and drowns
Early this morning, Police reported the tragic drowning of Pueblo Viejo ferryman fifty-one year old Artemio Vivas. Vivas’ body was retrieved from the river at around seven twenty-five am. Preliminary investigations reveal that Vivas, a resident of Corozal Town, was working on the ferry with his assistant, Rolando Alcoser. At about two a.m., a BEL vehicle heading from Progresso to Corozal showed up to make the crossing. The ferry was allegedly mid-river when Vivas went to the side to urinate and fell into the dark waters. It is believed that he slipped, since it had rained shortly before. Efforts were made to help him but because Vivas allegedly could not swim, he went under the waters and did not surface.
