More Belizeans off to Cuba thanks to scholarships
Twenty Belizean students are the lucky recipients of medical scholarships to Cuba. According to a press release from the Cuban Embassy, the students will attend the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, with classes set to begin on April first. The selection process included interviews by the ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs, and the Embassy of Cuba in Belize, with emphasis on low income applicants. There are currently one hundred and twenty-eight Belizeans studying in Cuba, sixty-seven of whom are hoping to become doctors. The scholarships are in keeping with a Cooperation Programme that Cuba has with Belize.
