O.W. chopping results in loss of finger and thumb
In the Orange Walk District, a seventeen year old has been arrested after chopping off a man’s thumb and index finger in a fight. According to police reports, early Sunday morning in Trinidad Village seventeen year old Ventura Garcia became involved in an altercation with forty-seven year old Belemo Cowo. Cowo wielded a machete and struck Garcia in the back, but Garcia was able to seize the weapon and turn it on Cowo, leaving him short of the two appendages on his right hand. Garcia has been charged with maim. His bail has been set at five thousand dollars which, at news time, had not yet been posted. Garcia’s next trial date is April twentieth.
