Purse snatcher remanded to Hattieville Prison
A thief busted by school children and an alert police officer was today charged in Belize City Magistrate’s Court. Forty-seven year old Nicaraguan Luis Saquaira appeared before Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie where he was formally arraigned on one count of theft. Saquaira pled not guilty, but when the court found out that he was also in the country illegally, he was immediately remanded to Hattieville Prison. His case was adjourned until April thirteenth. Saquaira was arrested on Friday afternoon after he stole the purse of school teacher Tricia Reneau on Regent Street West. Reneau’s students pursued the thief and P.C. Felix Martinez, who was in the area at the time, made the collar.
