S.J.C. teacher charged with burglary
A high school teacher is charged with burglary tonight after an incident in Belize City over the weekend. Court reports are that thirty-one year old Denroy Tillett, a teacher at Saint John’s College pleaded not guilty to the charge and is now out on five thousand dollars bail. According to the victim, Rhondine Tillett, around five-thirty on Sunday Denroy went into the house where she was staying, broke down a bedroom door, choked her, hit her in the head, and then left. During today’s proceedings, the accused denied the charge stating: “The allegations are false. … She said she was taking out the baby. When I asked if it was with her boyfriend, she became violent.”
Police Prosecutor Clint Magdaleno asked for bail to be denied but Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord ruled that because Tillett teaches third and fourth form, his students need him in preparation for their CXC exams. Lord did rule that Tillett must stay away from the mother of his child and must report to the court every Friday until the case is over.
