Cayo, Stann Creek youths enter grass cutting business
Since Youth For the Future was established four years ago, the organisation claims to have worked with six hundred at risk youths countrywide. Today the spotlight was turned on young people from the Cayo and Stann Creek districts who received the tools that will hopefully provide them with sustainable employment.
Douglas Hyde, Coordinator, Youth For the Future
?The concept of it is that by the end of the year we will have twelve weed cutters. Each weed cutter will run for at least three months, and after those three months it suppose to return back itself in terms of finance where young persons make back a money each week and put it back in the account and the account by the end of three months buys back another weed cutter and a next young person benefits from that. So by the end of the year at least, four times three, which is twelve, twelve weed cutters plus these first three will be out there with young persons out there. So fifteen young people totally for the year would benefit from this project.?
Devon Tate, Member, Y.F.F. Cayo
?We see this as a benefit to a lot of youths, because really not that they are in trouble … but most of them are unemployed and that is high in Cayo and this will definitely help.?
Fredrick Flores, Member, Y.F.F. Stann Creek
?We try to get the machines so we can work for our own things, and cut the bush and let it stop grow and thing.?
Jacqueline Woods
?Do you have any jobs line up as yet??
Fredrick Flores
?No.?
Jacqueline Woods
?But this is something that is definitely needed??
Fredrick Flores
