Canadians donate $60,000 for school feeding
Ten years ago, St. Mary’s Primary School initiated a feeding programme for its students. Today a total of two hundred and fifty children during the school week receive a daily balanced meal that many would not be able to afford. While the programme is a success, the achievement largely depends on donations received by the school and church. This morning a gift was offered that should take much of the uncertainty out of the project’s future. In a brief ceremony the Honorary Consul of Belize for Canada, Bob Dhillon, presented funds to father Leroy Flowers. According to Dhillon it took him only six days to raise the sixty thousand dollars, money that Flowers says will be well spent.

?I am a senior of a public trading company in the Toronto Stock Exchange and so I am fortunate enough that I went to all my business associates and suppliers and I went out there and raised it. Actually, Margaret told me?Margaret Nunez who is with Musa Balderamos gave me six days notice to raise sixty thousand dollars. I wish she had given me ten days notice and I could have raised a little bit more. So I was here and Margaret said this was a necessity, we got to help Mister Flowers and I said, ?Okay, I will be back in six days with the money.?

?What was in this project that made you contribute towards it because anybody can say anything about any project, but what motivated you guys to contribute towards this specific cause?
Bob Dhillon
?There were numerous reasons. One was that Margaret rarely asks for a cause, but when she does there is some merit to it. And the second reason was kids. And underprivileged children, that?s future of every country, inclusive of Belize, and we got to help these kids.?
Father Leroy Flowers, Chaplain, St. Mary?s Church
?We want to say our deep appreciation for the assistance. The money will be used to upgrade our feeding programme to begin with. In the hall we need to tile the floor and do some other things to really keep the programme going and make it worth the while for the kids, because whatever we do we try to do only the best and so it needs to be upgraded. Mrs. Nunez is our treasurer and active member of the parish and she is the person who really controls the finances of the parish and she saw the need and she got permission to go ahead and to try to raise this money. So that?s what the money will basically be used for, to help the parish to expand its work and to up grade its facilities.?
Dhillon works regularly to provide assistance for worthy causes in Belize.
