Charges dropped against 2 defendants in Gallaty shooting
It was a crime that shocked the country … the brazen 2004 shooting of well-known Belize City businessman Phillip Gallaty as he drove over a speed bump in Ladyville. Tonight the case is back in the news, as during court proceedings today charges against two of the accused were dropped. Reports to News Five indicate that the crown has withdrawn the charges of attempted murder, dangerous harm, and two counts of robbery against Frank Elijio and Kenrick Reneau. However, those same charges still stand against the third defendant, Aniver Palacio. A jury was empanelled this morning and the case is expected to begin on Monday before Justice Troadio Gonzalez. Gallaty was shot in his stomach and shoulder on the morning of April twenty-seventh, 2004, while on his way to the Corozal free zone.
