Two charged for dollar-fifty robbery
Two Belize City men were arraigned on charges of robbery in Magistrate’s Court on Monday for stealing the grand total of one dollar and fifty cents from a neighbour. According to Charles Pratt, around five on Friday evening he was near his home on Faber’s Road when twenty-nine year old David Burgos and forty-one year old Gary Peyrefitte approached him with a machete and demanded money. When Pratt told them he didn’t have any, the machete started swinging. The victim says he managed to duck away from the blade but was still cut on his thumb. At this point Pratt’s pockets were emptied and the thieves made off with a dollar coin and two shillings. The duo have since been granted bail in the sum of four thousand dollars each and ordered to return to court on March twenty-third.
