Burglars busted and sentenced to 5 years apiece
Two men have been sentenced to five years in jail for their involvement in separate burglaries. Forty-nine year old John Burgess of Tigris Street was found guilty by Magistrate Harry Hulett this morning after testimony revealed that after helping his neighbour, Deborah Broaster, move house, he helped himself to her possessions. Broaster was alerted to the theft by another area resident, Carlos Swift, who on the night of December fifteenth, saw Burgess leaving Broaster’s house with a TV and forced the thief to hand it over. When Broaster returned home the next day she found that a number of bathroom fixtures, valued at five hundred and fifty dollars, were missing. Following a police investigation, Burgess was picked up and charged.
Magistrate Hulett also found a wood carver from Santana Village, John Chi, guilty of burglary. The thirty-two year old Chi was caught inside a village shop belonging to Crispin Spain on August twenty-sixth of last year. Spain was awakened by barking dogs and when he went from his home to the nearby shop to investigate he saw Chi inside rummaging through the store’s goods. Chi managed to escape but he was easily identified and captured by police. He has been sentenced to five years in prison.
