No bail for Honduran accused of carnal knowledge

A Honduran man was not so lucky in his appearance today at Magistrate’s Court. Twenty year old Kevin Alberto Sargento of North Creek Road in Belize City stood before Magistrate Margaret McKenzie where he was charged with carnal knowledge. Prosecutor Sergeant Damien Lino requested that bail be denied based on the fact that Sargento is a foreigner with no papers and is therefore considered a flight risk. The judge agreed and remanded Sargento to Hattieville prison. On November thirtieth, 2005, a thirteen year old girl accompanied by her mother, reported to police that Sargento had engaged in sex with her. According to Sargento, the complaint is a ploy by the mother to extort money from him.
