Robber convicted thanks to alert policeman
It’s not unusual to hear of police showing up right after a crime, but it’s a surprise to hear tell of a robbery happening right in front of a cop. According to Detective Samuel Bonilla on September twenty-fifth, he was in plainclothes when he saw a man choking a woman on Barrack Road. Bonilla ran up to the couple, identified himself and immediately detained the attacker. It turns out the man had just ripped a gold chain from Elsy Correa’s neck and was intent on hurting her. Bonilla retrieved the victim’s property from the thief, who was still clutching the chain in his hand. The detainee, nineteen year old Tyrone Godoy, was later arrested and charged with robbery and damage to property. After hearing Bonilla’s damning testimony in court today, Godoy pled guilty to the charges and was sentenced to five years in jail for stealing the chain and six months for damage to property.
