Charges reinstated against home invasion suspect
Charges of attempted murder have been reinstated against a Belize City man in connection with an attack against a well-known businessman. Twenty-seven year old Giovanni Lauriano appeared before Magistrate Sharon Fraser today where he was re-indicted for two counts of attempted murder. Lauriano is now jointly charged with Kenrick Reneau and Aniver Palacio in connection with the December sixth attack on Sarkis Abou-Nehra at his home in Burrell Boom. A shootout between the victim and his attackers left Abou-Nehra slightly injured. Police would later find a knapsack containing duct tape and a syringe, leading authorities to suspect that the perpetrators may have been planning a kidnapping. On January eighteenth, the D.P.P. withdrew the attempted murder charge against Lauriano, along with the related charges of aggravated burglary and conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary. It is believed that these latter two charges may also be reinstated at Lauriano’s next court appearance on February ninth. Until that time he has been remanded to Hattieville Prison.
