Second suspect charged in Wave Radio robbery
Two men arrested and charged with robbery at a Belize City radio station have been arraigned in Magistrate’s Court. Twenty year old Bernard Smith and a fifteen year old minor will be tried jointly in connection with the December twelfth incident at WAVE radio. According to the station’s financial manager Juliet Thimbrel, around ten that morning, a man came to the station selling raffle tickets. But as soon as her back was turned, Thimbrel says the accused went into her office and stole a hundred dollars cash and her Motorola cell phone valued at eleven hundred dollars. The minor was detained at the scene, but Smith eluded capture until Sunday night when he was arrested in connection with the theft of four DVDs from CD Plus on Dolphin Street. Smith has been additionally charged with a mischievous act for initially telling the police that his name was Joseph Sewell. Given his track record, the prosecution asked for bail to be denied and Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord agreed. Smith and the minor will appear in court again on February twenty-eighth.
