Police struggle to solve mystery of San Pedro shooting
Today there are still far more questions than answers over events in San Pedro town that has left thirty-nine year old caretaker Danielo Villatoro dead and his boss, sixty-six year old William Douglas Campbell fighting for his life. Investigators tell News Five that because it is believed that the two men were the only witnesses at the scene, they are now waiting to see if Campbell will regain consciousness long enough to give a statement. Despite reports that Campbell was both stabbed and shot, tonight we understand that the injured man received one bullet wound to the upper left side of his chest. Shortly after the incident, Campbell slipped into a coma. The incident has kicked the Ambergris Caye rumour mill into high gear as Villatoro and Campbell are known to be friends. It is understood that both men were having domestic problems with their wives and had started drinking heavily together. Residents of the Tres Cocos area say prior to the shooting the men talked about ending their lives. When caye cops arrived on the scene on Thursday, Campbell and Villatoro were found inside Campbell’s home. Villatoro was already dead, the victim of a fatal bullet wound to the right ear. Police have recovered what is believed to be the murder weapon, a thirty-eight revolver, and say they will leave no conch shell unturned to determine who shot Campbell and Villatoro.
