Taxi operator is charged for the murder of a Dangriga resident
One man was viciously attacked and stabbed to death; the body of twenty-five year old Ezekiel Hernandez was found on Monday morning. This afternoon, forty-three year old taxi operator, Charles Herrera, of Lavender Street, in the Saint Martin De Porres area of Belize City was arraigned for the murder of Hernandez as well as for two counts of possession of a control drugs; that being cannabis. For the charge of controlled drugs, he pleaded not guilty. At around five-thirty on Monday morning, Hernandez’s body was found at the corner of Partridge and Lavender Streets. It had three stab wounds to the back but it took some time to identify because his family could not be immediately located. Hernandez was originally from Dangriga and according to his sister; he would travel to Belize City twice monthly. It is believed he met his death when he was caught in the act of breaking into a taxi. Before leaving the courtroom, Herrera asked the magistrate to please have the court prepare his warrant for an outstanding fine of two hundred and ten dollars r which he owes the court for a previous conviction for driving contrary to the flow of traffic.
