Machetemen sentenced to one year in prison
Two teenagers have been sentenced to a year in prison for their role in a 2005 chopping incident. Nineteen year old Leonard Gillett Junior and fifteen year old Darren Jones, both of Hattieville, were today found guilty of grievous harm in the courtroom of Magistrate Harrison Hulett. The charges arose out of an incident in which Conroy Mejia reported to police that he was walking in Hattieville Village on the night of October seventh, 2005, when he was accosted by six youths, two of whom he identified as Gillett and Jones. Mejia said that the group, armed with machetes, harassed him about a misunderstanding they had with his brother and then began to chop him, after which they threw him in the drain. Mejia suffered injuries to his head, finger, leg and knee and said that the doctor had to remove skin from his buttocks to mend his face.
