16 year old in critical condition after shooting on Calle al Mar

Five hours later, sixteen-year-old Corine White was targeted near Newtown Barracks on Sunday morning.  The teenager was reportedly in the company of her boyfriend and another person inside a green vehicle heading in the direction of Calle Al Mar, when they came under gunfire. At about three-thirty a.m., a lone gunman emerged on the scene and sprayed a volley of bullets at the vehicle.  While a majority of the bullets flew wide of the intended target, White was hit in the right ear and chest and is listed in a critical, but stable condition at the K.H.M.H.

Supt. Gualberto Garcia, O.C., Precinct 3, Belize City Police

Gualberto Garcia

“That shooting happened a few hours before this shooting that we just discussed a while ago.  This shooting was reported to us sometime after three a.m. on Sunday.  Police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital once more where they observed a female minor of sixteen-years-old suffering from gunshot wounds.  Apparent injuries were on her ears and also a gunshot wound on the chest.  The person has undergone medical treatment and the person is in a stable condition.”

“Is there also a motive as to what transpired?”

Supt. Gualberto Garcia

“We don’t have a motive either for this event.  All I can say is that this female was with her boyfriend and they were leaving the area from the Princess Casino area and once they boarded their car and they were traveling down the street and about to turn into Calle Al Mar, a lone gunman came out from somewhere and opened fire on this vehicle.  The only person who sustained injuries was the female who was inside and as a result of which she is presently hospitalized.”

“Can you tell us if the vehicle was hit by bullets or it may have passed through?”

Supt. Gualberto Garcia

“Yes, I observed the vehicle and the vehicle does have some bullet holes so it is obvious that it was shot at as a result of which the female received her injuries shot and injured.”

Police investigation continues and so far no one has been charged for any of the shootings.
