Rotary Club Donates Medical Supplies to the KHMH
Today the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital received a much needed donation of medical supplies from the Sunrise Rotary Club in Belize. It’s the result of a collaboration between the local chapter and their counterparts in Port Moody, Canada, and was born out of a request made for school supplies and book
There was a request made for school supplies and books, which were put into a forty-foot container bound for Belize.
Victor Usher Jr., PR Director, Rotary Club of Belize Sunrise
“When they finished putting in what they had available, they had space left in the container, and they don’t like to ship containers with airspace in it. They like it packed so that they get the biggest value for money…so they said, do you need medical supplies. We said yes, and that is how this project came about that the Karl Heusner has ended benefitting from.”
Dr. Gary Longsworth, Chief Executive Officer, KHMH
“This type of donation…a lot of it consists of disposable items or one use items that are very necessary for the running of the hospital. It’s a quite diverse donation – goes from personal health products to items that can be used in the operating theatre, in our dialysis unit, on the general wards, etc. so it’s a mixed bag that can be used in various areas of the hospital. Like I said, it’s not permanent equipment…but it’s the kind of thing that we consume on a regular basis, and is a cost to the institution…so it’s a great help to get donations like this.”
Some of the items are already being used in the K.H.M.H. The donation includes gynaecology supplies, liquid soaps, oxygen masks, orthopaedic kits, filters and a wide array of other public hospital equipment.
