Lab tests confirm case of hemorrhagic dengue

The nation’s first case of the dangerous dengue hemorrhagic fever has been confirmed as blood samples sent to Mexico have indicated positive results. Sources tell News Five that the man from the Cayo District had been making frequent trips to Melchor de Mencos in Guatemala and could have been infected across the border. Fortunately, that case is described as mild and tonight we understand that the man will resume his normal working routine as early as next week. Meanwhile, another suspected case of dengue hemorrhagic fever was officially ruled out by lab results. Ten-year-old Darwin Martinez was rushed the K.H.M.H. on August twenty-seventh and died within hours. Doctors had suspected dengue, but blood work sent abroad indicates otherwise. Officials are again advising the public to get rid of breeding sites like old containers, tyres, buckets, and anything that can hold water. If you collect rainwater for use in the home, place a sieve on the top and if possible, wash out drums at least once a week. According to Director of Health Services Dr. Errol Vanzie, countrywide eradication efforts continue as outbreaks of malaria and non-hemorrhagic dengue persist in pockets throughout the country.
