China Celebrates the Year of the Goat
And today marks the start of the Chinese New Year which runs through to March fifth. It is the “Year of the Goat,” which symbolizes good luck in the Chinese calendar. Benjamin Ho, Taiwanese Ambassador of Belize took the opportunity today to wish Happy New Year to Chinese Belizean.

“Since this is the first year of the Chinese New Year; the year of the Goat, the goat is the symbol of good luck. So, I want to take this opportunity to wish all my Belizean friends, good luck to you; peace, prosperity and health to you all.”

“Could you talk about the significance of celebrating the year of the goat?”
Benjamin Ho
“Well, the goat is an animal of symbol of good luck. We Chinese, not only in Taiwan or China, but everyone all over the world celebrate this day. First, we get together to celebrate the Chinese New Year with a dinner that is for the whole family people. For the first day of the year everybody will put on new clothes, particularly of red color because the color it is a symbol of good luck. It is a sign of new beginning, new hope, new way of life and we are receiving good luck to come. The first day, no part and no trivial work like sweeping, because they want to receive all the good luck. It is s jovial day for fun, for play, for eating; nobody will do anything. This is a good break for all Chinese in the world.”
