Hospital Auxiliary helps surgical ward

Story PictureThis afternoon in a brief ceremony at the K.H.M.H., the Hospital Auxiliary donated more than twenty ceiling fans, a number of wash basins, and material for curtains and screens to the general surgical ward of the facility. According to Edith Lizama, unit manager of the ward, today’s contribution will make a big difference to her patients.

Edith Lizama, Unit Manager, General Surgical Ward
?As you know, when you are ill, if you have a more beautiful environment it makes the patient get better quicker. In the heat now, we received twenty-three new fans that will be very good for our patients. We will have basically have one fan per patient, so we appreciate these gifts.?

Magda Burgos, President, Hospital Auxiliary
?We have fundraisers, the members do dinners and we sell lunches etcetera. We also have a cafeteria here in the hospital lobby and that provides an income for the hospital auxiliary.?

?We don?t go to businesses because we feel they are already over burdened. What we do is try to work for our money, that?s why we have the cookbook, that?s why we have the cafeteria, provide these services on our own. But we do from time to time, get donations from the public. As a matter of fact, we got sponsors for our cookbook which helps us to defray the costs. As to donations that we provide, it?s really our liaison, our members and people already know, because we do a lot of individual help too for medical reasons. They come to us, and we have a procedure: we look at it and we give the donation wherever it is needed.?

According to the Auxiliary President, Magda Burgos, copies of this year’s cookbook can be purchased from the Auxiliary Cafeteria at the K.H.M.H. or international customers can contact the group at the email address fm2000@btl.net. If you would like to donate fans or material to the hospital’s other wards please contact the Director of Finance, Sandra Miranda, at the K.H.M.H.
