B.P.P. Says Rejected Protocols is Tantamount to Failed Diplomacy

Paco Smith

The rejection of the Sarstoon proposals is not sitting well in many quarters. Today, the Belize Progressive Party likened this development to failed diplomacy. Party Chairman Paco Smith says the B.P.P. does not endorse taking the unfounded claim to the ICJ.

Paco Smith, Chairman, Belize Progressive Party

“For us that’s a foregone conclusion. It’s basically indicative of this 4A Policy that we have been speaking about for quite some time: Appeasement, Acquiescence, Accommodation and Adherence. What we are seeing is a manifestation of that 4A Policy in many different fashions and forms. It basically amounts to that of failed diplomacy. We stand firm with regards to our conviction. You know our stand is based on the premise that we are saying no to the ICJ at all cost and it is fundamental because what we are hearing in a majority sense by the way of the media is a singular narrative with regards to Belize’s position in terms of Guatemalan aggression and their unfounded claim. The government of Belize is pushing this singular narrative in that they are saying that we must go to the ICJ; that’s our only option and we at the Belize Progressive Party say no; that is not the case.”
