PM Barrow Reminds Guatemalan President about the Murder of Danny Conorquie
Guatemala earlier today issued a statement saying that ten Guatemalan civilians had been killed by Belizean troops. But there is also the murder of Danny Connorquie and the shooting of Sergeant Richard Lambey within Belize territory, which remains unresolved. While Belize has not placed responsibility at the hands of Guatemalans, everything points to them. According to the PM, the two countries must maintain the peace.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“I recollected for the president that Sergeant Lambey was shot perhaps just two weeks ago and I also recall the murder of Special Constable Conorquie. And of course, we cannot prove that Guatemalan civilians were responsible that is certainly the thought, the feeling, the conviction and it goes to show how dangerous the situation is in the areas patrolled by our Belize Defense Force. Bottom line is that while the president disposition and I maintained mine, we agreed that there is the immediate need to deescalate the tension, we agreed that all measures must be taken to achieve that end, we agreed that while we are awaiting the results of the inquiry, contact dialogue must be maintained to ensure that there are no breaches of the peace that exists between Belize and Guatemala. We also spoke about the Sarstoon and again we agreed that there is a need to work out some kind of a protocol to govern the operation of the two countries on the Sarstoon.”
Bring back the British.
THE REASON FOR ALL THIS LOSS OF LIFE IS VERY SIMPLE. GUATEMALA TEACHES THEIR CITIZENRY TO DISRESPECT THE BORDERS AND THE COUNTRY AND SO THEY TAKE BOLD STEPS TO HARVEST OUR NATURAL RESOURCES AND FIRE UPON OUR BORDER PATROLS WHO ARE TRYING TO STOP THEIR ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES. BELIZEANS DO NOT GET KILLED THAT MUCH BECAUSE WE RESPECT THE BORDER FOR THE MOST PART AND WE DO NOT DO THE THINGS THEY DO. SIMPLE!
